1972 Old Way Mai Tai

Trader Vic's style mai tai

[Classic] [Poolside] [Refreshing] [Retro] [Tiki]

Ingredients [ oz | cl ][ My Bar ]
1 oz Dark Rum[ Add ]
1 oz White Rum[ Add ]
12 oz Orange Curaçao[ Add ]
34 oz Lime Juice[ Add ]
14 oz Simple Syrup[ Add ]
14 oz Orgeat Syrup[ Add ]
Method: On the rocks
Glass: Old-Fashioned
Recipe:
  1. 1 oz Dark Rum (Gosslings)
  2. 1 oz Light Rum (I use 50/50 Light rum and spiced rum)
  3. 1/2 oz DeKyupper Orange Curacao
  4. 1/4 oz Orgeat Syrup
  5. 1/4 oz Simple Syrup
  6. Juice of one lime (About 2/3 an oz)
  7. Add to glass with a handfull of crushed ice and swizzle until the glass frosts.
  8. Top with 7-up for fizz
  9. Garnish with a cherry

My take on the classic 1972 "Old Way" Trader Vik's Mai Tai.

Love the addition of spiced rum - really adds a kick of flavor.

Fantastic retro recipe!

... and cut the simple syrup. Make it with just 1/2 oz of orgeat - makes more sense, and I don't think the flavour will become too nutty.

Really awesome. One or two dashes of Peychaud's bitters can play very well here.
